Therapeutic Recreation Director

About the Position

The Therapeutic Recreation Director plans and oversees a variety of recreational and therapeutic activities designed to help residents stay active, engaged, social, and as independent as possible.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess residents' interests, abilities, needs, and preferences to develop meaningful activity goals.

• Plan and coordinate a variety of social, educational, recreational, and 1:1 activities.

• Create and maintain the monthly activities calendar.

• Complete required documentation, including assessments, progress notes, care plans, and discharge summaries.

• Participate in care conferences and work with the interdisciplinary team to support resident care.

• Lead monthly Resident Council meetings and follow up on resident concerns.

• Manage the department budget and ensure resources are used effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist; OR

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy or a related field, such as Recreation and Leisure Studies, with an emphasis or concentration in Therapeutic Recreation; OR

• At least 5 years of experience and training working in a skilled nursing facility with older adults.
