The Paramount at Somers Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and compassionate Recreation Director to lead our recreation and therapeutic activities program. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional who is passionate about enhancing residents’ quality of life, promoting social engagement, and creating meaningful experiences for individuals in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who can develop engaging programs, motivate a recreation team, and create an environment where residents feel connected, valued, and supported.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and oversee a comprehensive recreation and activities program tailored to residents’ interests, abilities, and individual needs.

• Organize engaging activities, including arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, entertainment, cultural events, and group outings.

• Develop individualized recreational approaches for residents with varying physical, cognitive, and social needs.

• Supervise, train, and support recreation staff and volunteers.

• Encourage resident participation and promote socialization, independence, and emotional well-being.

• Collaborate with nursing, social services, rehabilitation, and other interdisciplinary team members to support resident-centered care.

• Maintain accurate activity calendars, participation records, assessments, care plan documentation, and other required records.

• Ensure recreation programs comply with applicable federal and New York State regulations and facility policies.

• Coordinate special events, holiday celebrations, birthday parties, and family engagement activities.

• Monitor resident feedback and continuously improve programming to enhance the overall resident experience.

• Manage the recreation department’s supplies, resources, and budget effectively.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in recreation or activities leadership, preferably in a skilled nursing facility, rehabilitation center, assisted living, or long-term care setting.

• Previous supervisory or departmental management experience preferred.

• Knowledge of recreational programming for older adults and individuals with physical or cognitive limitations.

• Familiarity with applicable skilled nursing facility regulations and documentation requirements.

• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

• Creative, energetic, and compassionate approach to resident engagement.

• Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, staff, and community partners.

• Relevant degree, certification, or credentials in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Activities Administration, or a related field preferred.
