What Does Cooking at the Veterans Home Look Like?

Our cooks prepare daily meals for the Veterans and spouses living in our community. You'll work from planned menus and recipes to prepare meals while also making sure individual dietary needs, textures, portions, and preferences are followed.

You'll work alongside Culinary Aides and other members of the culinary team to keep meal preparation and service running smoothly—from preparing food and checking temperatures to making sure everything is ready when it's time to serve.

Unlike a traditional restaurant kitchen, you're cooking for many of the same people each day. You'll become familiar with our members, their preferences, and the role a good meal can play in making our facility feel like home.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus, recipes, and production needs

• Prepare food that meets member-specific dietary, texture, and consistency requirements

• Ensure food is prepared and served at appropriate temperatures

• Follow portioning and presentation guidelines

• Coordinate food preparation to ensure meals are ready for scheduled service

• Follow food safety, sanitation, infection prevention, and proper food-handling practices

What We're Looking For

• Dependable and able to follow a consistent work schedule

• Comfortable preparing food in larger quantities

• Able to follow recipes, menus, and individual dietary instructions

• Organized and able to manage multiple food items and preparation timelines

• Knowledgeable about or willing to learn food safety and sanitation requirements

• Able to communicate and work effectively with other members of the culinary and facility team
