Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented MDS Coordinator (Minimum Data Set Coordinator) to join our healthcare team in a part-time capacity. This vital role involves coordinating and managing comprehensive assessments for residents in long-term care facilities, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and optimizing patient care documentation. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical documentation skills, extensive knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations, and experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems. As an MDS Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in facilitating quality resident care while supporting facility reimbursement processes through accurate data management.
Duties
Conduct thorough assessments of residents using the MDS process to evaluate their clinical needs and functional status.
Ensure timely completion and accurate documentation of all MDS items in compliance with CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) guidelines.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nursing, therapy, social services, and medical staff to gather comprehensive resident information.
Review medical records, clinical documentation, and care plans to verify accuracy and completeness for MDS submissions.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations, long-term care policies, and reimbursement criteria such as Medicare requirements.
Utilize EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or similar platforms for data entry, documentation review, and reporting purposes.
Support utilization management initiatives by analyzing data to identify opportunities for improving patient care quality and regulatory compliance.
Skills
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as PCC or comparable EMR platforms.
Strong understanding of MDS processes, ICD-10/ICD coding, CPT coding, and medical terminology related to long-term care.
Knowledge of CMS regulations, Medicare/Medicaid policies, HIPAA compliance, and health regulation policies.
Experience with clinical documentation improvement (CDI), utilization review, case management, and health information management.
Familiarity with managed care concepts, long-term care regulations, acute care experience, hospital or nursing home experience preferred.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to review complex medical records accurately while adhering to documentation standards.
Effective communication skills for collaborating across multidisciplinary teams and ensuring compliance with all documentation requirements.
Florida Background Screening Requirement:
This position requires a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) Clearinghouse in accordance with Florida law. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background screening.
