We are seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Assistant to join our long-term care facility team. Responsibilities

Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical equipment, and building interior components to ensure optimal operation.

Repair and troubleshoot electrical systems, including electrical equipment repair and working with schematics to diagnose issues accurately.

Conduct plumbing system maintenance and repairs, including fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and ensuring proper drainage.

Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and ohmmeters to complete maintenance tasks efficiently.

Carry out carpentry work, painting (including residential painting), and facilities upkeep to maintain the building’s appearance and safety standards.

Assist with welding tasks when necessary, adhering to safety protocols and technical specifications.

Support HVAC system repair efforts, including diagnosing issues with HVAC units and performing necessary repairs or replacements.

Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities using schematics and other documentation tools for future reference.

Collaborate with team members to supervise or assist in projects related to facilities maintenance, ensuring timely completion.

Provide excellent customer service by addressing staff or resident requests promptly and professionally while maintaining a positive attitude.

Experience

Proven experience in facilities maintenance or a similar role within a long-term care or residential setting is preferred.

Strong mechanical knowledge combined with hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment such as ohmmeters.

Familiarity with electrical work, plumbing systems, HVAC systems, building interior maintenance, carpentry, welding, and painting is essential.

Experience working with schematics for electrical or mechanical troubleshooting is highly desirable.

Supervising or leadership experience in maintenance operations is a plus, demonstrating the ability to oversee projects or mentor team members.

Knowledge of maintenance, repair & operations (MRO) practices ensures efficient handling of ongoing facility needs.

Excellent communication skills in English are required to effectively document work orders and collaborate with team members.
