Temporary Recreation Assistant

TEMPORARY - October through January

Part time / Evening shifts available

Northern Manhattan Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing is seeking an experienced Therapeutic Recreation Assistant who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of older adults.

Main Responsibilities:

·       Leading and completing recreational programs and activities while encouraging and engaging with an older population

·       Support residents in their leisure time and promote healthy lifestyle choices

·       Perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, exercise and dancing.

·       Transporting supplies, lifting, pushing and re-arranging tables and chairs.

·       Pushing residents in wheelchairs and assisting with transfers.

·       Maintain accurate records and reports of resident participation and progress

·       Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care

·       Prepares materials and request supplies for recreation programs, incorporating needs and interest of residents

·       Clean up supplies and equipment after each activity.

·       Work with and/or supervise volunteers assigned to his/her work area.

·       Facilitates access and participation in activities of clients with special needs.

·       Assists in large group recreation activities.

·       Attends workshops, seminars, in-service education programs and department meetings.

·       Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

·       High School diploma or equivalent

·       Nursing Home Experience (REQUIRED)

·       Therapeutic Recreation Experience 1-2 years (preferred)

·       Bilingual (preferred)

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

·       Exceptional customer service skills

·       Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
