Position Summary

The Transportation/ BHT Specialist provides direct support and supervision to individuals receiving behavioral health or substance use treatment services. This position assists with maintaining a safe, structured, and supportive environment while also providing reliable transportation for clients to medical appointments, counseling session, treatment programs, court appointments, community resources and other approved activities.

The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, patient, and able to maintain professional boundaries while working with individuals who may have behavioral, emotional, or substance use challenges.

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct observation, supervision, and support to clients in accordance with program policies and treatment plans.

• Maintain a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for clients and staff.

• Monitor client behavior and report significant changes, concerns, incidents, or safety issues to appropriate clinical staff.

• Provide transportation for clients to medical appointments, counseling sessions, treatment programs, court appointments, community resources, and other approved activities.

• Operate agency vehicles safely and responsibly while following all traffic laws and company transportation policies.

• Complete required vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.

• Assist clients with entering and exiting vehicles as needed while maintaining appropriate dignity and safety.

• Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, attendance records, and required documentation.

• Support clients in developing appropriate social, communication, and independent-living skills.

• De-escalate situations using approved behavioral intervention techniques and seek assistance when necessary.

• Maintain confidentiality and protect client privacy in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws.

• Communicate effectively with clinical, medical, administrative, and other team members.

• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other required activities.

• Follow all organizational policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable regulations.

• Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, attendance records and required documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.

• Previous experience working in behavioral health, mental health, substance use treatment, residential care, healthcare, or a related field preferred.

• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

• Ability to safely operate an agency or passenger vehicle.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations.

• Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPR/First Aid certification.

• Crisis intervention or de-escalation training.

• Experience with electronic health records or behavioral health documentation.

• Experience transporting clients in a professional or healthcare setting.

• Knowledge of mental health and/or substance use disorders.

• Completion of Behavioral Health Technician, Mental Health Technician, or similar training.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the work environment.

• Ability to assist clients with mobility and transportation-related needs when necessary.

• Ability to safely enter and exit vehicles and assist clients as appropriate.

• Ability to respond quickly to safety concerns or behavioral emergencies.
