Position Summary
The Intake Coordinator/Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) is responsible for coordinating the admission and intake process for new clients while providing direct support and supervision to individuals receiving behavioral health and/or substance use treatment services. This position serves as an important point of contact for clients, referral sources, families, and members of the treatment team. The Intake Coordinator/BHT ensures that admissions are completed accurately, efficiently, and compassionately while helping maintain a safe, structured, and supportive treatment environment.
Shift: 2nd shift 7pm-7am
Job Responsibilities
Coordinate and facilitate the client admission and intake process.
Receive and respond to referrals from hospitals, treatment providers, healthcare professionals, families, courts, and other referral sources.
Gather required demographic, insurance, medical, behavioral health, and psychosocial information.
Complete and maintain accurate admission and intake documentation.
Verify insurance benefits and assist with obtaining required authorizations when applicable.
Schedule admissions, assessments, appointments, and other required services.
Review program expectations, client rights, policies, procedures, and consent forms with new clients.
Ensure required admission paperwork is completed accurately and timely.
Communicate relevant intake information to clinical, medical, and administrative staff.
Maintain confidentiality and protect client information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
Coordinate with referral sources and outside providers to support continuity of care.
Identify urgent clinical, medical, behavioral, or safety concerns and immediately notify the appropriate supervisor or clinical staff.
Assist with discharge and transfer coordination when needed.
Behavioral Health Technician Responsibilities
Provide direct observation, supervision, and support to clients in accordance with program policies and treatment plans.
Assist clients with daily routines, activities, appointments, and program expectations.
Maintain a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment.
Monitor client behavior and communicate significant changes or concerns to clinical staff.
Provide support during crisis or behavioral situations using approved de-escalation techniques.
Encourage appropriate coping skills, communication, social interaction, and independent living skills.
Assist with client activities, groups, recreation, meals, and other program functions as assigned.
Complete required client observations, rounds, logs, progress notes, and other documentation.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients at all times.
Support the treatment team in implementing individualized treatment plans.
Report safety concerns, incidents, or changes in client condition promptly.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Previous experience in behavioral health, mental health, substance use treatment, healthcare, residential treatment, or a related field preferred.
Experience with intake, admissions, scheduling, customer service, or medical/behavioral health administration preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to remain calm, professional, and compassionate when working with individuals experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic health record systems.
Preferred Certifications/Training
CPR/First Aid certification.
Crisis intervention or de-escalation training.
Behavioral Health Technician/Mental Health Technician certification or training.
Experience with HIPAA and behavioral health documentation.
Knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders.
