Job Summary:

At ODD Fellows Home of Massachusetts, we're dedicated to providing exceptional care and rehabilitation services to seniors in Worcester, Massachusetts. We're seeking a compassionate and experienced Director of Rehabilitation to lead our rehabilitation team and ensure our residents receive the highest level of care and support. As a critical member of our leadership team, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing rehabilitation programs that promote independence, wellness, and quality of life for our residents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

-Assumes responsibility for managing Respiratory Therapy, (per facility policy).  Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy services.

-Assures that quality care is provided in all rehab disciplines.

-Acts as liaison for the rehab disciplines between facility administration and Corporate Rehabilitation Director.

-Assumes responsibility for reading and following all documentation guidelines in the Documentation Manual.

-Demonstrates consistent ability to manage rehab service problems, emergency situations and initiates appropriate action.

-Actively markets Rehab. Department services and facility to:  physicians, hospitals, discharge planners and community organizations. 

-Plans, schedules, organizes, directs and supervises all services and operations of the Rehabilitation Department.

-Determines appropriate Medicare coverage in cooperation with Administrator, Admissions Coordinator and Director of Nursing.

Maintains records pertinent to resident treatment:

            A.        MD orders for eval

            B.        Clarification orders

            C.        Evaluation report

            D.        Daily treatment log

            E.         Weekly summary

            F.         14 day physician notification

            G.        Discharge summaries

            H.        Completes Medicare forms appropriately

            I.          Resident care plans

            J.          MDS - Minimum Data Set

Coordinates the CQI department plan.

Identifies need for Rehab. Department equipment.

Maintains 50% productivity level.

Determines staffing needs, schedules staff and maintains accurate staffing records.

Attends or assures representation at facility meetings, i.e., department head, safety committee, patient care planning, infection control and inservices programs, CQI, and interdisciplinary team.

Reviews, develops and implements policy and procedures for Rehab. Dept.

Assumes responsibility for overseeing that all billings, payroll and other required reports are done accurately and on a timely basis.

Participates in patient care rounds, rehabilitation team conferences, conferences with physicians, members of the rehabilitation team, as necessary, regarding problems, progress and needs of patient.

Provides inservice education to all personnel.

Studies current trends and new development in rehabilitation by survey of current literature and attendance at professional meetings and conferences.

Participates as a member of  the Management Team in weekend management program.

Assumes accountability for the development, organization and implementation of approved policies and procedures.

Assumes responsibility for rehab services compliance to federal, state, JCAHO standards and local regulations.

Assumes responsibility for training and orientation of new dept. personnel.

Provide direct therapy services to patients.

Conducts interviews, hires rehab service employees, conducts counseling interviews and initiates disciplinary actions as necessary.

Prepares written employee performance evaluations and initiates recommendations for salary increases, promotions or terminations.

Follows all Resident’s Rights policies at all times.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the rehabilitation team, including occupational, physical, and speech therapists

• Develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members

• Conduct resident assessments and improve rehabilitation outcomes through evidence-based practices

• Manage rehabilitation services and resources, including budgeting and staffing

• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless transitions and exceptional patient care

• Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and stakeholders to expand rehabilitation services and opportunities

Requirements:

• Graduate of an approved program in the discipline of practice. PTA/PT or speech therapist preferred.

• At least two (2) years direct patient care experience.

• Valid license, certification, registration or eligibility for license in the state of Massachusetts.

• Two (2) years management experience required, five (5) years preferred.

• Two (2) years experience in Long Term Care/subacute preferred.

• Current CPR Certification required.

• Knowledge of managed care, geriatric nursing, reimbursement systems, OBRA, HCFA, JCAHO and Medicare preferred.

• Knowledge of growth and development across the life span required.

General requirements:

• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the impact of disability upon an individual's, as well as families' physical, emotional, social, economic, and vocational status, taking into consideration age-related issues, and developmental levels over the life span (i.e., the adolescents' need to develop their own identity and cope with life changes; and the geriatrics' need to maintain their integrity and independence and adjust to the physiological aspects of aging), and meets competency requirements for the population served (adolescent through geriatric), as applicable to the job description.

• Establishes open lines of communication with physicians and consultants and consistently takes follow-up action on recommendations.

• Assumes accountability for all data contained in the personnel policy manual.

• Interprets existing policies and procedures to professional and non-professional rehab personnel.

  Professional Development Requirements:

• Consistently maintains awareness of changes in rules and regulations effecting facility operations

• Follows all facility safety policies and procedures.
