We are seeking a warm, compassionate Croatian-speaking Companion Caregiver to support a 76-year-old gentleman living with dementia in the White Plains / Valhalla area of Westchester County.
This is more than a caregiving position—it’s an opportunity to provide genuine companionship, meaningful conversation, cultural connection, and engaging daily activities to someone who values his Croatian heritage.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for someone who can bring patience, positivity, and conversation into our client’s day while helping him remain engaged, active, and comfortable at home.

What You’ll Do
Provide friendly companionship, conversation, and social interaction
Support cognitive engagement through games, conversation, and meaningful activities
Accompany the client on walks and simple outings
Encourage an active and engaging daily routine
Assist with light housekeeping, including laundry
Prepare simple meals as needed
Provide compassionate, respectful support tailored to the client’s needs
Who We’re Looking For
Croatian fluency is required.
The ideal candidate is:
Warm, patient, dependable, and genuinely compassionate
Comfortable engaging with an older adult living with dementia
Experienced in dementia care (preferred, but not required)
Naturally conversational and socially engaging
Interested in Croatian culture and able to create a sense of familiarity and connection
Someone who understands that great companionship is an essential part of quality care
Location:
White Plains / Valhalla, Westchester County, NY
Extremely convenient commute — just a 2-minute walk from the Valhalla Metro-North station.
Schedule:
2–3 days per week
4–8 hour shifts
Shifts scheduled between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM
Flexible scheduling within these hours
Compensation:
Competitive $30/hour pay

Responsibilities:
Providing companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
Providing compassionate, patient hands-on personal care support for ADLs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and transfers.
Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world and their favorite pastimes (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
Running errands for clients (e.g., grocery shopping, sundries).
Reminding clients to take their medications.
Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routine or prescribed physical therapy).
Assisting clients in preparing meals.
Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.
Qualifications:
We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective.
Strong candidates possess:
A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college and advanced degrees.
Deep empathy and patience.
Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
Strong composure under pressure.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
