Human Resources Generalist - Benefits

Essential Job Responsibilities

The Human Resource Generalist performs duties at the professional level in some or all of the following functional areas: benefits administration, HRIS operations, training, leaves of absence, onboarding, position changes, employee relations, and satisfaction surveys. This role requires a perceptive, detail-oriented individual who can build relationships across all organizational levels while balancing corporate needs, employee satisfaction, and departmental goals.


Benefits Administration

  • Administer CHE’s employee benefits programs, including applicable state-mandated leave benefits.

  • Monitor employee benefits eligibility and process enrollments, changes, and terminations in accordance with plan requirements and applicable laws.

  • Support the annual open enrollment process by coordinating accurate employee communications and ensuring timely benefit elections.

  • Review benefits enrollment and eligibility reports in coordination with Accounts Payable to validate carrier invoices and resolve discrepancies.

  • Administer and monitor paid and unpaid leave programs, including PTO, holidays, FMLA, disability leave, paid family leave, and military leave, in accordance with company policy and applicable law.

Recruitment Support

  • Respond promptly to applicant inquiries regarding benefit eligibility and coverage.

  • Notify new hires of eligibility periods and provide timely responses to coverage questions.


Payroll & Compliance

  • Notify payroll team weekly of enrollments and changes to 401(k) contributions.

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits regulations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate lists of employees eligible for ad hoc benefits (holiday gifts, boost

  • bonuses, anniversary awards, etc.).

  • Notify supervisors of upcoming performance evaluations for their team members.

  • Contribute to process improvements and departmental efficiency.

  • Cross-train with HR team members to ensure coverage during departmental leaves of absence.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field preferred.  


Experience

  • 3 + years of HR generalist experience preferred.

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience with benefits administration and HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred).

  • Knowledge of wage and hour regulations.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • High level of confidentiality and discretion.
