Activity Aide – Long-Term Care / Nursing Home

Fairport Rehab & Nursing Center | Full-Time | $18.00 per hour

We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and energetic Activity Aide to join our long-term care team and help create meaningful experiences for our residents.

About the Position

The Activity Aide plays an important role in enhancing residents’ quality of life by planning, organizing, and facilitating engaging recreational, social, and therapeutic activities. The ideal candidate enjoys working with older adults, is dependable and organized, has strong time-management skills, and is comfortable using computers and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about helping residents maintain their dignity, independence, social connections, and sense of purpose.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and implement activities based on residents’ preferences, interests, abilities, and individual needs.

• Create and maintain monthly activity calendars for the assigned unit.

• Encourage and assist residents with participation in activities, including transportation to and from activities as needed.

• Assist with crafts, games, music, religious programs, entertainment, holiday celebrations, and special events.

• Coordinate facility-wide activities and special events with team members and other departments.

• Complete attendance records and required documentation, including MDS-related documentation, progress notes, care plans, and other departmental records.

• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and communicate changes in residents’ conditions, needs, or participation to nursing staff.

• Maintain a positive, welcoming, and safe environment that promotes resident dignity, independence, socialization, and quality of life.

• Prepare activity areas and decorate resident and common areas for holidays, seasonal events, and special occasions.

• Coordinate with volunteers and other departments to support resident activities.

• Assist with reception desk duties, mail distribution, and other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

• Perform other duties as needed to support the Activities Department and enhance residents’ overall well-being.

Qualifications & Skills

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Leisure Studies, or a related field preferred.

• Relevant education, training, and/or experience may be considered.

• Previous experience working with older adults preferred.

• Experience working with individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia preferred.

• Long-term care, nursing home, or geriatric experience preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Ability to navigate and use electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Compassionate, creative, dependable, flexible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

• Ability to safely push resident wheelchairs and assist residents with transportation to activities.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and meet the physical demands of the position.

• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.

• Availability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Schedule

• Employment Type: Full-Time

• Hours: 37.5 hours per week

• Primary Schedule: Daytime hours

• Additional Availability: Occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Compensation

$18.00 per hour
