Dance/Movement Therapist

Bezalel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is seeking a Dance/Movement Therapist to join our Recreation & Creative Arts Therapy Department. You will use Dance/Movement Therapy, Recreation Therapy, and Creative Arts Therapy to assess and treat the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of our residents, including end-of-life issues, in line with the interdisciplinary plan of care.

Population Served: Geriatric residents and individuals with advanced physical illness, neurocognitive disorders, short-term rehabilitation needs, psychiatric conditions, and developmental and physical disabilities.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Dance/Movement Therapy.

• At least 2 years of experience with the geriatric population.

• NYS licensure as a Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) preferred, if not yet licensed, must be able to become licensed (LCAT-LP).

• NYS-approved licensure, or eligibility for Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

• Experience with reminiscence and validation therapy.

• Strong documentation skills.

• Ability to work with residents with severe and multiple disabilities and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team.

  Responsibilities:

• Develop and run creative arts therapy programs for residents in short-term rehab and those with neurocognitive disorders, developmental and physical disabilities, and psychiatric illness.

• Provide individual and group assessment and treatment, including for residents facing end-of-life issues and bereavement.

• Provide therapy interventions that strengthen muscles weakened by age, bed rest, stroke, fractures, amputation, and joint replacement.

• Develop groups and activities that help residents cope with loss, stress, and anger, and build social and coping skills.

• Plan monthly programs, including trips and birthday parties.

• Supervise transportation of residents to outside programs.

• Follow all safety and infection control procedures.

Reports to the Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Creative Arts Therapy.
